Superior Healthcare Using Traditional Oriental Methods

Your Visit to the Clinic

The first visit to the clinic will take on average one to one and a half hours. Please bring any relevant documents (copies of blood test results, X-rays or MRIs, etc.) with you to your appointment. You will then be given a confidential health history questionnaire to fill out and then, together with your acupuncturist, you will go over the nature of your presenting condition and  an in depth health history will be taken.

A treatment plan will then be prepared and discussed with you and then you will receive an acupuncture treatment, Chinese herbs, Shiatsu or a combination depending on what is appropriate for you.

Return visits take between 45 minutes to an hour, depending on your situation, and may vary from session to session.

What to Expect During an Acupuncture Treatment

In a typical treatment fine, sterile needles are inserted into specific points on the body that have been found to help the presenting symptoms and underlying condition. These points can be anywhere along 14 primary meridians that span the entire length of the body. The choice of points typically involves local and distal points combined in a way that will be most effective for the identified condition. Nutritional advice and/or time-tested herbal formulas may also be incorporated into the treatment plan. Water should be drunk after all sessions. Alcohol should be avoided for at least eight hours after a treatment, thereby allowing the treatment to fully settle within the body. Please have had a little something to eat prior to treatment. As with all body work, patients may expect to feel sleepy, invigorated or experience the release of emotions.  All of these responses are normal.

What to Expect when Taking Chinese Herbs

If a Chinese herbal formula is prescribed, it will either be in pill or powder form. The powders are added to hot water and are taken in the form of a medicinal tea. Pills are slower acting than the tea formulas but both types of formulas achieve good results over time.

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a traditional healing Japanese form of massage therapy. The form that Laura practices is usually quite gentle. The patient remains fully clothed and experiences deep relaxation and a reduction of presenting symptoms. As with all body work, patients may expect to feel sleepy, invigorated or experience the release of emotions. Water should be drunk after all sessions. Alcohol should be avoided for at least eight hours after a treatment, thereby allowing the treatment to fully settle within the body.
